Welcome

“You should write because you love the shape of stories and sentences and the creation of different words on a page. Writing comes from reading, and reading is the finest teacher of how to write.”
–Annie Proulx

I read a lot and write a lot – hence my somewhat tattered, overstuffed, black-and-white Vera Bradley bag. It always includes two books, one to read and one to write in.

As a raconteur and researcher, my free moments are filled with reading, writing, and  learning. I have ghostwritten several hundred – nearing a thousand – articles and penned plenty of personal pieces. I continue my adventures editing and drafting copy for print.

On my desk sits a plaque that reads, “Don’t Forget Your Daydream.”  It is a reminder that, “the story I am writing exists, written in absolutely perfect fashion, some place, in the air, ” and I continue to capture it sentence by sentence and page by page.

There are many reasons to visit a writer’s website and I sincerely hope you find what you seek. Of course, websites, like unpublished manuscripts, are a work in progress. If you are looking for something that is not here, please feel free to drop me a note.

About Me

A place of sunsets and seasons

Mary Keating lives in a two-story yellow house with a front porch in the Rocky Mountains. She serves as the Director of Marketing for Portneuf Medical Center where she oversees the strategic direction, vision, growth, and performance of Portneuf’s brand.

As a seasoned marketing professional with over twenty-five years of experience, Mary has been fortunate to work with fierce and compassionate mentors, insightful and intuitive editors, and impassioned and gifted employees. She gives a nod and a smile to the fine few who have taken the time to elevate and educate those around them.

As a national and state award-winning feature writer and columnist who has penned and published hundreds of articles, she may be heard saying that she knows a ‘little’ about ‘a lot.’ Her writing journey began with a column about an eleven week ‘working vacation’ in Avezzano, Italy with a three-year old, a six-month old, her hubby the engineer, and a hideous double stroller.

Her career path has been one of opportunity and joy. She was the endowment director for Idaho State University, served as regional director for the American Diabetes Association, explored technical editing and content strategies with SheWrites New York, owned and operated her own business, designed websites, coordinated volunteers, managed countless projects, and continues to find her way as a marketer, wordsmith and researcher.

“I am excited about all the projects in progress, those that are simmering and those awaiting an author,” said Mary.

She is often reminded that her world, like her front porch, is a place of sunsets and seasons. It is a place to be still, listen, and experience the world.

Of course, set in the Rocky Mountains, one must also be aware that it is a place where thunder crashes, snow falls, sun shines, and the space may be visited by birds, deer, lizards, stray cats, owls, mice, and the occasional snake.
